The Mobilized Force

By Matthias H. K.
The third of November

Just a day away from the election-day things were really heating up. Just the day before this we’d been out hanging up door-hangers, reminding the local population of Cheltenham that tomorrow’s the eve of destiny. It was in essence a show-down of fate, where we had the bad guys and the good guys. Naturally we were part of the good fight. What brings me to this simplistic view of good and bad? Well, just looking at how the two campaigns went at their work should be plenty proof. I don’t know whether McCain himself is a bad person, or whether it’s his campaign people that are to be loathed, but there were definitely lies, smears and misinformation in the air. Devout Obama supporters were told to go to the wrong polling locations, misinformation was being spread in clever ways and who knows what else they’ve been doing. I’ve even heard rumors that some polling machines were being rigged. Regardless of all this it was our job as part of the campaign to continually make sure that people got out voting. The first half of the day was spent hanging up doorknob information. It was a tiresome job, since it was exactly the same as yesterday. But, looking at all the other volunteers, I understood how important it was to give it my all, 110%. They all had stressed out faces, but their spirits were high since they were fighting for their cause. If anything, I don’t want to see all these anticipating smiles wither away on Election Day. In a sense, i tried to protect the hidden smiles. No one dared to believe that it might happen, and everyone worked that much harder. It wasn’t just about Obama winning, it was about all these people banding together to fight for a common cause. I can only say that it was an utterly beautiful experience. We had all united, to work as a single force.
