Change is in the Air

By Matthias H. K.
The fourth of November.

It was finally the day. We had done the last canvassing. The church was filled to the brim with people. All of them volunteers. The air was electrifying. We had more than enough food and drinks to keep us entertained while the numbers rose. First, McCain had the lead by two. But soon, we won Pennsylvania. A cheer broke out which first alarmed me. Before it had even registered in my brain, I saw that Pennsylvania had been one of the first big states to have been won over by Obama. Our duties had been fulfilled; we had all done our job and won one of the more crucial states. I can’t explain the feeling, it was simply unique. Like, everyone had held their breath for so long, and could finally breathe out relieved. It now felt like the rest was up to the other states. And they continued to roll in. Obama won this one, Obama won that one. And every time he won a big state there were renewed cheers. Of course there were jeers for the states McCain won. The biggest cheer of all till that time had been the one for Pennsylvania though. But, close to eleven, came a cheer that toppled them all. A jubilated yell, that seemed to resound through the country. Obama had won, and early in the game. There was celebration after that, in grand style. I can easily put down some poetic, flourishing and lavish comments about what happened, but it wouldn’t do the spirit of the event justice. I can only say that it was epic.
